Dumb people don't know they're dumb.  Smart people feel insecure.  That pretty much means that we're in trouble.  It is also called the Dunning-Kruger effect and it explains why dumb people are more confident.  I'm not saying it is a good thing.  I'm just saying that it explains a lot of things.
